Election Results
Being an off-year election, it wasn’t all that difficult to count the results—there weren’t that many. When I went to vote at 7:30 last night only 75 people from my precinct had voted out of about 700 registered voters. 10% turn-out—ouch! Of course there were no heated battles in Lindon. I suspect the turn-out was better in Provo and Sandy.
Speaking of Provo, Lewis Billings cruised to an easy win over Bailey, winning with a margin of 2500 votes out of about 12,000 cast. I was glad to see this result simply because it means iProvo will go forward unimpeded and that has much broader implications than a simple city race. Besides, I’ve worked with Lewis and like him.
In other Utah county news, the Orem arts tax passed by a wide margin. I was sorry to see Christine Tolman lose the mayor’s race in Springville.
In Sandy, voters kept Mayor Tom Dolan and approved the zoning change that will allow Wal-Mart to build a big-box store at the old gravel pit. The vote was within 10%, but not really close. People love their Wal-Marts. Add to that the basic feeling by Utahns that people ought to be able to do what they want on their property and you have a result that favors big money.
Here’s other results:
- Election Results: Davis County
- Election Results: Salt Lake County
- Election Results: Utah County
- Election Results: Other Cities
