No Email at the Top
Was anyone else as floored as I was by this Trib article on the fact that Gov. Huntsman doesn’t use email? I can sympathize with anyone who is overwhelmed by a flood of email and there are certain conversations I won’t have on email, but to simply swear it off out of fear doesn’t sit right with me.
“I don’t do e-mail because I think you can always be set up for an unfortunate incident if you spill your soul. I’ve seen more legal problems tied up in e-mail than I have in any other form of communication. You have to think twice before using it that way,” Huntsman said. From Salt Lake Tribune - Utah

I understand the fear mentality. The fact is that no politician goes very far without being very careful. There’s too many places to step in a crack and never recover. Still, it’s sad to think it’s come to this.
Think of the cost involved in having staff people deal with notes instead of email, having staff to print out emails, and even having a lawyer on hand to pour over any emails that do get generated classifying them on the basis of whether they should be purged or not. Not many of us can afford that level of care. Glad to see our tax dollars can buy it for someone.
