Our Very Own IRV Strawpoll
Well, the Republican’s use it to select a candidate for Governor at their convention, so I thought readers of UtahPolitics.org should be able to participate as well. If you’re not familiar with Instant Runoff Voting, or IRV, this fact sheet will explain it.
On the right hand column, you’ll see a section for our strawpoll. Click on the Cast Your Vote Now! text and then take a minute to rank all fourteen candidates for Governor and then submit your vote. You’ll be given a chance to verify your vote after you submit it. You can check a running tally of the votes as well.
The beauty of IRV is that you can vote for your first choice candidate without fear of throwing your vote away on someone who you’re afraid can’t be elected. If Gary Herbert or Richard Mack is your first choice, vote them first and then select a second choice and so on. IRV will ensure that your entire ballot counts all the way down. No need to ask the “electability” question. Just vote your conscience.
Please publicize this widely and let’s collect as many votes as we can. Almost 1000 people voted in the last strawpoll. To send this entry to a friend, just click here.
P.S., Thanks for Tom Gregory for the graphic “Vote” button!
