Democracy's Savior or Assassin?

Steve Clift has written a thoughtful essay entitled Democratic Evolution or Virtual Civil War that asks some tough questions about the effect of the Internet on democracy. Many, like me, have been excited by the possibility that the Internet will fuel a new grassroots style of democracy. Steve points out the real possibility that the Internet will, instead, be used by the entrenched powers to further solidify their position.
