Big Week for Gubernatorial Politics
Hundreds of state delegates and business leaders flocked to Deer Valley this weekend for an openhouse at the Huntsman lodge. Jon Huntsman, Jr. shared his ideas on governing while family members shared their talents and sang Christmas carols with the guests. The Huntsman campaign is well-organized and well-funded.The Nolan Karras campaign sent out postcards to state delegates announcing the support of former Governor Norm Bangerter.
Marty Stephens announced that he is leaving his position as vice-president with Zions Bank to concentrate full-time on his political campaign. Stephens has been actively courting delegates at county party central committee meetings and other settings around the state.
Political pundit Paul Rolly speculated that Governor Walker may still be planning to run in 2004.
With the early start and large number of viable Republicans in the race, it appears that this could be the most expensive Governor’s race in Utah history. I would like to see some of the candidates begin a weblog of their campaign like most of the presidential candidates have now done.
